DivingA Marine Park wonderlandDivers will be very happy to learn that Arajilla Retreat is close to some world-class dive spots. With a beautiful crystal clear, 6km long lagoon bordered by a coral reef, there is around 490 species of marine life and some 90 coral types to explore.The rich mix of both temperate and tropical species ensures that divers can encounter an endless number of colourful fish and other sea creatures. It is no wonder Lord Howe Island gained World Heritage Listing decades ago in recognition of its status as both the southern most coral reef in the world and a place that is home to many unique, rare endemic species of flora and fauna. Further recognition has been bestowed on its waters when in 1999 it was declared a State Marine Park. This fantastic spot for diving is protected, the use of spear guns is not allowed, thus ensuring for divers the richness in variety of marine life for a long time to come. In addition to the vast array of marine life, divers can marvel at caves, drop offs, walls, reefs and gutters. With several diving sites, there is plenty to keep even the most experienced diver on edge and such a place is none other than Gower’s Pinnacle. Here the skilful amongst divers can encounter deep gutters, coral trees, some massive soft corals and even sharks. There are however spots for all levels of diving skills with Malabar being one of them. This reef arrangement is in a 10-20 meter depth whereas the Gower’s pinnacle depth ranges from 24 meters to 40 meters. It’s a divers’ paradise!
