Unspoilt paradise

The Elandra is located in Mission Beach which is the natural midway point between Townsville and Cairns (Far North Queensland). It is an unspoilt tropical paradise of World Heritage rainforest fronting 14 kilometres of golden, sandy beach.

Mission Beach is almost half way between Townsville and Cairns in tropical North Queensland - just 1.5 hours easy drive south of Cairns and 2.5 hours north of Townsville. Both cities have airports and are linked by the main north south rail line as well as Highway 1 which passes a mere 25kms to the west of Mission Beach. Connecting coaches run from Cairns into Mission Beach three times a day. Alternatively, you can take a scheduled flight into Dunk Island with water taxi transfers to Mission Beach.

The Great Barrier Reef is only 38 kilometres from Mission Beach, thus making it the closest mainland point to the Great Barrier Reef at just over an hour away.

AIRCRAFT ARRIVAL - Qantas, JetStar or Virgin Blue fly direct into Cairns  or Townsville.  Alternatively, guests can take a scheduled flight into Dunk Island with a water taxi transfer to Mission Beach.

  • BY HELICOPTER – helicopter transfers can be arranged from Cairns directly to The Elandra’s private heli-pad through Great Barrier Reef Helicopters (GBR) info@gbrhelicopters.com.au
  • BY AIRCRAFT – Reefwatch Aeroplane Charters offer charter flights from Cairns to Tully (which is a 15 min drive to The Elandra).  A taxi can be caught from Tully. e:  sales@reefwatch.com
  • BY LIMOUSINE -  Cairns Limousines can meet guests at Cairns airport and chauffer them in style and comfort to The Elandra.  Tarago with luggage trailer for 7 pax is also available.  E: info@cairnslimosuines.com
  • BY COACH  - The Greyhound and Premier bus services make regular stops in Mission Beach at the Wongaling bus terminal by the Big Cassowary. Mission Beach Dunk Island Connections also have a coach service to and from Cairns 3 times a day timetabled to interconnect with the Dunk Island ferries.  e: mbdic@bigpond.com
  • BY TRAIN - QRail passenger train services stop at the Tully Railway station. A taxi can be caught from the station.
  • BY HIRE CAR – car rental is available by most companies however, Sugarland Car Rental has offices in both Cairns & Mission Beach, which enables guests to hire in Cairns and drop off in Misison Beach.  E:   sales@sugarlands.com.au

Driving directions

BY ROAD - If you are heading from the south, turn right off the Bruce Highway just north of Tully and it is approximately 26km to Mission Beach.  If you are heading from the north then turn left off the Bruce Highway in El Arish and it is approximately 16km to Mission Beach.    Follow signage to South Mission and follow Kennedy Esplanade, turn right at Jacky Jacky St, left at Mitchell then follow the road as it turns into Explorer Drive.  The Elandra is situated at the top of Explorer Drive.
