Sightseeing the spectacular Sounds

Many visitors simply come to this southern corner of New Zealand to see the natural wonders of Milford and Doubtful Sound. Whether gazing from the shores of Milford Sound to cruising upon its waters, the sheer majesty of Mitre Peak will always make an awe-inspiring impression of visitors, whilst the wild, rigged beauty of Doubtful Sound gives a true sense of humility!

This region is also known as the ‘walking capital of the world’, Fiordland offers the keen hiker 500 kilometres of tracks through awe-inspiring mountains and beautiful forest. Guests can choose, for example, from walking the famous Milford, Routeburn, Kepler and Hollyford Tracks, or taking short nature or special interest walks.

The Lodge’s proprietors also own and operate Fiordland Guides, a renowned organisation that offers guided extended hikes, birdwatching excursions, hunting for red deer, chamois, thar, wild pig, goat and sheep and, most importantly, fishing trips. The Fiordland region is world renowned for its fly-fishing, particularly for rainbow and brown trout in the crystal clear, well-stocked local rivers and streams.

Other pursuits include adventures such as skydiving, kayaking on Doubtful Sound, taking a scenic flight or guided golf tour, discovering the nearby Glowworm caves, or simply relaxing at the Lodge.

Complimentary transfers to Te Anau are provided for those who wish to explore the town, or to join an excursion to Milford or Doubtful Sounds.
