Activities and Attractions
Wineries, beaches and golf
Located on the east coast of the North Island and with a benign climate, the Hawke’s Bay region is ideal for grape growing. The area is particularly famous for its reds, and wine and food lovers are well catered for here, with over forty wineries and some fine restaurants. This is also a golfer’s paradise – there are around twenty excellent courses in the region, including the award-winning and very scenic Cape Kidnappers Golf Course.
The city of Napier, just 20 kilometres away, boasts a magnificent harbour and is renowned for its Art Deco architecture and thriving arts scene. Natural attractions include golden sandy beaches, the world’s largest mainland gannet colony (20 kilometres away), wide rivers that are ideal for trout fishing, and hiking on nearby Te Mata Peak, which rises to 399 metres above sea level.
