Activities and Attractions
Superb natural and cultural wonders
Perched dramatically above one of Sri Lanka’s finest beaches, Saman Villas offers a great range of water-based activities, such as scuba diving, deep sea fishing and cruises. Nearby are the sleepy fishing village of Aturuwella, historic gardens, scenic walks, fish markets, a Buddhist temple and, of course, shopping – particularly for crafts, antiques and beautiful Sri Lankan gemstones.
A little further afield lie natural wonders such as the giant sea turtle hatchery at Kosgoda, coral reefs, Kaneliya rainforest, and the superb World Heritage listed Sinharaja Forest Reserve, home of the country’s last extensive area of tropical rainforest. Another must is the 16th-century town of Galle, home of magnificent old Dutch fortifications that are also on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
